Last month 3062 tons of eoal was railed westward and 3993 tons was carried eastward on the Buller Gorge railway* Pte. L. M. Thompson, who has been for six years in the P. and.T. office at Westport leaves on Wednesday for Christchurch and will accompanied by Mrs. Thompson and child. The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society was held in the rooms recently. Present: Miss Harkness (chair), Mesdames J. M. Robertson, Martin, Hagedorn, Smith, Woodward, McHerron, Jenkin, Atkinson, Eairhall and Martin. Apologies were received from Mesdames Hayes and Gemmill. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The nurse's report was read and adopted. Mrs. Fairhall was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks for relieving the nurse during. March. The secretary reported that the sum of £6O 13s Bd' was raised fit the recent annu&l appeal. This is a record amount for an appeal and the committee is very grateful to all those who so generously contributed to this effort. Inward ‘ correspondence was received and dealt with: From Head Office, replying to complaint re condition of oranges.—Received. From Head Office, re relieving nurses salary.—Received. From County Council, advising that a donation of £25 had been made to the Rest Room Fund.—Received. The secretary was instructed to arrange for insurance on nurse’s bicycle. Mesdames Enright and Fairhall were appointed a visiting committee for April. Hon W. H. Mclntyre, chairman ot Nelson Education Board, left to-day for Reefton on education board business. Mr. L. J. Bayfield, formerly of Westport, and for several years manager of the Chateau Tongariro, has taken over the management of the Government hotel at Te Anau.
