(Rec. 7.40) MELBOURNE. Jan. 24. To conserve motor parts, . and especially to save rubber, by reducing lyre wear, all motor veb’des in Australia. excepting those of the defence and emergency services, will he restricted to a speed of forty miles an hour after February 1.
The latest figures show that there are more than seventy-five thousand motor vehicles registered in Australia.
Tests have proved 1 hat from 30 to 35 miles per hour is the most economical speed for tyre wear, and the new limit, is expected to give the tyres now in use an average I'M nl eighteen thousand miles.
