JAP AIR RAIDS

Milne Bay and Port Darwin [Snecial to N.Z. Press Assn.] (Rec. 10.10.) SYDNEY;. Jan. 22. Increased Japanes air activity in the South-west Pacific has again been evident. In various actions throughout the South-west Pacific Command area on Thursday, the enemy employed about sixty- ’planes. Two of these Japanese actions were offensive ones. One action was a night raid on Port Darwin, It was made by two ’planes. Their bombs were droppea harmlessly in the bush. Allied Kittv- ! hawk night fighters intercepted them. One of the bombers is believJ ed to have been destroyed. These ’planes were making the fiftieth enemy raid on Port Darwin. They kept above a height ot twenty thousand feet. Two more enemy night raids have also been made on Milne Bay, in south-east Papua. A total of twelve bombers engaged in the raids. They caused slight damage but no casualties, at the aerodrome.
