CHRISTCHURCH EAST BYEELECTION.

CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 22.

There will be five candidates in the Christchurch East bye-election following the death of Mr Armstrong. ’ Nominations closed at noon to-day. The nominations are:— Mabel 'Howard > (Labour): M. E. Lyons (Nat’onal); H. E. Herring (Democratic Labour): O. J. F. McKee (Independent Socialist); and L. A. Efford (Peace candidate). W. Julius Hyde, of Wellington, will not go to the poll. He 'called on the Returning Officer just before the nominations closed to advise him that he would not be standing as an Independent as two nominators were not forthcoming.
