MEAT PRODUCTION
THREE MONTHS’ KILLINGS. The official figures of killings for the present season at the Dominion s freezing works from October 1 till January 2, as issued by the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board show that lamb killings now total 1,930,314 carcases, this being a decrease ot 601130 carcases compared with tne killings to January 3 last season. Wether mutton killings are 3<A bJ carcases, and ewe mutton killings 73,826 carcases, compared with 1U4,04J and 47,368 carcases respectively last season. Details of the lamb and mutton killings in the North and South •Islands, with figures for the previous season in parentheses, are as follows: North Island. Lamb carcases 1,633,973 (1,788,869); wether mutton carcases, 37,17(100,422); ewe mutton carcases (34,434). South, Island. Lamb carcases 296,341 (742,575); wether mutton carcases, 17 <4,427); ewe mutton carcases 563 (12,934). Frozen beef production has reached 44,166 quarters, compared with 30,985 quarters last season. Porker killings total 8,517 carcases, a decrease of 22,068, whilst baconers total 35,638 carcases, a decrease of 70,160.
