WAIUTA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent.] Mr. J. Crowley, a well known resident of Hukuwai, has entered the Reefton Hospital for treatment. Mr. Sid Ward is making good progress his recent accident, and expects to be discharged from hospiU?l during the week. Miss Pat. Darby of the staff of the Greymouth Post Office is spending a holiday here. Messrs W. T. Hempseed and R. M. Tapper who have been attending Home Guard camp, have returned. At a meeting held in the Institute Hall on Saturday, Mr. G. T.homas, presiding it was decided that, providing transport could be arranged, the annual picnic this year be held in Westport on February 6, in conjunction with the Reefton school ex- j cursion. A collection for the picnic fund, will be taken up on Friday.) Jan 22. Mesdames W, G. Harris: and J. Rodden were appointed col- 1 lectors. A letter was received during the week from a' former well known resident, R. L. Nehemia. “Rend” is an Air Gunner in the R.N.Z.A.F., and is completing his training in Canada. He is fit and well and sends best wishes to all Waiuta friends. A good number of local residents visited Greymouth for the trotting meeting, and all report having spent an enjoyable day. Mr. L. McKendry, of Reefton. is spending a’ few days here, visiting nis daughter Mrs. G. Bolitho. Messrs Magee (2) and C. Stephens, of Temuka, who have been spending a holiday here are the guests of Mrs. J. J. Smith, have returned home. A welcome home social evening will be tendered to Gunner B. K. Hempseed in the hall this Saturday evening after the pictures. Excellent arrangements a're being made, and one and all will be assured of an enjoyable .evening. Miss E. P. Connors and family who have been visiting Greymouth have returned. Mesdames H. Courtney, R. Robertson and Master Pat. Ryan, lett on Tuesday morning for Christchurch. Mrs. G. Keenan has left on an extended holiday visit to the North [stand. Commencing from next Friday, pav days at the Blackwater mines will be on alternate Fridays, hawkers, bagmen and swagmen are requested to note the alteration.
