MILLION CHILDREN

Proposed Entry to N.Z. “HAVEN FOR EUROPEAN ORPHANS.” F.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 25. Mr. A. Leigh Hunt, chairman of the Dominion Settlement Association, when addressing a representative meeting of twenty Wellington citizens to-day, outlined an immigx<ation scheme by which New Zealand would take 1,00'0,000 children from Britain and Europe, doing so at the rate of 100,000 children a year. He believed, he said, that children could be easier absorbed into the community than adults. He also belived 'that there would not be the same political opposition to child immigration, and that there would not be any clash with the settlement of the returned soldiers. “The idea is to proclaim New Zealand as a haven for orphans of Europe,” he stated.
