NEGOTIATED PEACE
BRITISH OPPOSED TO IT. AN INTIMATION TO CHINESE. (Rec. 7.15.) CHUNGKING, Nov. 24. Mr Scrymgeour Wedderburn, speaking on behalf of a British Parliamentary Mission to China, told a Press conference: “Britain will continue the war until Japan hr/; been defeated, or occupied, or has unconditionally surrendered. It is merely a strategic technical matter if Germany is defeated first, and Japan defeated second. But there_is no doubt in the minds of the British people that both must be defeated thoroughly. Britain would not tolerate a negotiated peace. Without an occupation, the punishment of war criminals would be out of the question. We must gain a complete victory through forceful destruction and aggression.
