FRENCH GOLD
AT DAKAR AND MARTINIQUE. (Rec. 9.20) NEW YORK, Nov. 24. The “New York World Telegram” declares: “The control of French West Africa will give the United Nations access to one thousand million dollars worth of gold. The gold has been stored at Dakar since the Nazi invasion of the Low countries. There has, in addition been 280.000,000 million dollars worth of gold stored in the French West Indies island of Martinique. This has been placed beyond the reach of the Axis. American authorities assume that Admiral Darlan will make the gold at Dakar available for the United Nations cause.
