CALL FOR TEACHERS

To Worlt in Holidays HEAVY TASKS NOT WANTED. P.A. WELLINGTON. Nov 25. “Male school teachers throughout New Zealand are being interviewed by the National Service Department and are being asked to undertake other work during six weeks of the Summer holidays,” said the President of the New Zealand Educational Institute, Mr D. Forsyth, to-day. There had been no call-up of women teachers for that purpose, he said. Many women teachers, however, were volunteering, and doing so Tri greater numbers even than last vear, for packing and assembly work in factories, also for fruit, tobacco and hoppicking and for vegetable growing. Mr Forsyth said that the married men and those with family responsibilities were being aslced how much time they would want for their own purposes, and whether they would prefer to undertake work at the. huginning or the end of their holiday period. But the single teachers were not being given that option. Mr Forsvth added that, while the teachers, generally, were not opposed to this plan, it was felt' that, whatever work was undertaken, it should not be of such a heavy nature that it would result in increased sick leave being required duringTthe year, and that it should bo as great, a change as possible from what they were doing for the rest of the year.
