MILLERTON NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent.] Messrs F. and B. Cooper have returned from a visit to 1 Wellington. Mrs F Ireland has been visiting Nelson. , , , , ■ , Mr G. Palmer, who had been laid up with sickness has resumed work. Mr T. Budd Jias returned from Christchurch. Hon. W. H. Mclntyre has returned from Wellington. Mr T. Burchfield, who met with an accident in the mine, is progressing favourably. Mrs R. Swan is an inmate of Westport Hospital. Mr W. Wood is a patient at Westport Hospital with a knee injury. _ Mr J. .McKinlay was a recent visitor to Seddonville.

Sergeant-Major W. Mackie was a recent visitor to Millerton. Millerton miners are to work the two remaining back Saturdays before the holidays. Millerton Bowling Club has lately played off a number of competition matches. Mine workers look forward to the Westport Trotting Club obtaining a permit for a second day’s racing at Christmas.

The local swimming baths ar« nearing completion and are expected to be fitted out before the New Year. The Caledonian Society’s social last Saturday night was largely attended. Mrs ’B. Riddell and Mr B. Murphy (Granity) wort a “Monte Carlo.'' The St. John Ambulance class held a social in the Rechabite Hall when the presentation of certificates was made by Mr John Dowgray, the instructor. All of the members who sat passed their examinations. Awards were: Mr John Mann, Sixth Label; Mr Brian Watson, Bar to Medallion; Mrs Freda Fox, Medallion; Mr W. Gilmour, Medallion: Mrs Bertha Woods. Second Year Certificate; Mr Jack Tavlor. Second Year Certificate; Mrs Wi. Strang. Mrs L. Olson, Mrs A. Corbett, Mrs D. Cooper, Miss I Porter and Mr G. Burt, First Year Certificates. .Mrs Strang presented Mr Dowgray with a gift and thanked him for the tuition and helo he had given during the vear. Mr Dowgray said he was only too pleased to 1 teach, and hoped to see them all again at next year’s classes. A dainty supper was served. Mrs Boswell and Mr Fox supplied the music for the dancing.
