CRIPPS DROPPED

The following British Cabinet changes are officially announced:— Viscount Cranbourne to be Lord Privy Seal. Colonel Oliver Stanley to, be Secretary of State for the Colonies. Sir Stafford Cripps to be Minister of Aircraft Production. Colonel J. J. Llewellyn to be Minister Resident in Washington for Supply- : , Sir S Cripps ceases to be a member of the War Cabinet, and Mr Morrison, Minister of Home Security, will take Sir S. Cripps’ place in the War Cabinet.
Lord Cranbourne- will continue to be Leader of the House of Lords. Mr Eden will succeed Sir S. Cripps as Leader in the House of Commons.
Mr Churchill, in a letter to Sir S. Cripps, said: “Although it might at first sight appear that by leaving your present post for a great administrative post, you would be stepping down in the political hierarchy, I know you would not be influenced by that. This proposal is conceived solely to meet a most serious war need.” Sir S. Cripps, replying, said he felt it would be inappropriate for him to remain a member of the War Cabinet, in view of the relationship between the Minister of Production and the Supply Ministers.
CRIPPS' EXCLUSION FORESEEN.
[Aust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] (Rec 10.10.) LONDON, Nov. 22. The “Daily Mail’s” political correspondent describes Sir Stafford Cripps’ exclusion from the War Cabinet as “astonishing.” The “Daily Mail” adds: Tire transfer of Sir Stafford Cripps will not surprise many of the politicians who know how restless he has become in recent months. Members op the House of Commons who have been closely acquainted with Sir Stafford Cripps’ activities have, from time to time, forecast his resignation from the Cabinet altogether. Sir Stafford Cripps has never appeared happy as the Leader of the House of Commons, which requires tact and patience, as well as a sensitive' reaction to the niceties of Parliamentary procedure. The “Daily Express” says: “There have been reports recently, that Sir Stafford Cripps has been unable to see eye to eye with his fellow members of the' War Cabinet on many important political matters.” The paper adds: “Mr Morrison’s active brain will be "a source of strength in the direction of the war.” SHAPING OF PEACE POLICY. (Rec. 10.10.) LONDON, Nov. 22. “The Times”, in a leacrlng article, says: Sir Stafford Cripps, in joining the War Cabinet brought a certain assurance to a large body of opinion that, in the highest councils, there would be ample consideration of forward views in the shaping of the policy of both war and peace. This withdrawal from the Cabinet of a Minister who is peculiarly identified in the public mind with the planning for post-war reconstruction will increase public expectations of a War Cabinet decision which is essential if a peace policy is to be ready for launching when the time is rine for it.”
