PETTY REPRISALS
IN GERMANY FOR WAR PRISONERS.
(Rec. 10.10) LONDON, Nov. 22. “The Daily Mail’’ says:— New forms of “reprisals” against prisoners of war are revealed in uelayed letters reaching Britain. These appear to apply only in one or two camps. There is no suggestion at physical brutality. It is merely an infliction of considerable discomfort. One private wrote home to his mother that he had just received his first letter from her after three months. He said: “We have another reprisal now, no shaving kit, and no towels or fresh clothes for a fortnight. 1 have a 1 lovely beard.” A major of a Rosshire unit, writing to his wife, stated everything had been taken from them except the clothes they were wearing. He added: “Not being able to shave and wash properly or to clean one’s teeth, has a humour, ous side. I have heard more l jokes and laughter than previously.”
