Dreaver, M.P., gave addresses here on Monday night at the Town Hall and St. James’s Theatre in the campaign to recruit women for farm work. She left for Greymouth yesterday. The following men proceed to camp on Friday: D. A. Benseman, J. E. Currie, B. A. Lineham. The death took place at Wellington recently of Garnet Cooper, wife of Joseph Cooper, in her 90th year. She was formerly a resident of Millerton. The death occurred at Christchurch on Saturday of Mr Jeremiah Currie, in his 86th year. Mr Currie was born at Carareagh, County Antrim, Ireland. Mr Currie was wharf foreman for the Railway Department at Westport from 1909 until his retirement in 1919, when he went to reside in Christchurch. He is survived by his son, Mr William J'. D. Currie, of th e Telegraph Department, Christchurch.

Nelson Education Board as its meeting on Mondav received from Black’s Point School Committee a request for the grading of the school grounds. The chairman said the board had provided a new school and spent £35 on new fences. Thq_ committee was expected to put the school grounds in order. It was decided to ask the committee what it was prepared to contribute. The secretary was authorised to call tenders for removing Waitahu school to Inanyahua Landing. It was decided to call tenders for purchase of the Tiroroa school. Westport South Committee asked for the removal of a two-room-ed wooden classroom at Palmerston Street, to South School for use as a gymnasium and concert hall. The secretary pointed out that the board must retain the' two class rooms for a storeroom and Boy Scouts’ use, for which these rooms have been earmarked. The Army was to have the use, free of charge, of all buildings. The board decided to consider tneproposal, provided the committee could get the Army to grant the old Technical School buildings for board use. Inangahua Junction Committee and Tennis Club wrote protesting against paying towards the construction of a tennis court at the school by the Public Works Department, until certain improvements had been carried out to the court. It was decided to refer the matter to the Public Works Department to settle with these two parties, the board having paid its share. At the request ■ of the head teacher, Reefton, .it was decided to line the woodwork room and give the committee power to sell chairs in the- cookery room, if it would provide stools in their place.
