SCREWS DO THE TRICK!

[Aust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] SYDNEY, October 7. Delighted with a handful of brass screws presented to them by members of the crew of a crashed United States bomber in New Guinea, natives guided the airmen back to Port Moresbv. The plane crashed not far from the Japanese base at Salamaua. The crew dismantled the undamaged parts and filled their pockets with screws. Lost in the jungle, they found the natives reluctant to show them the way to Port Moresby until they produced the screws. The natives fought between themselves to gain possession of these; some removed the bone ornaments from their noses and replaced them with screws.
