NEW RATION BOOKS

early issue According to advice received by the Chief Post Office at Greymouth, the new ration books for the second period, commencing on November 1, will be issued on and after October 19. Possession of the current rationing books will form' the basis of issue, the holder to apply by writing his name (in block letters and m ink) on the counterfoil of the ”0” sheet in the current book. In addition, the date of birth of children who will not have attained the age of 17 before January 1 next must be shown on the counterfoil. This is because children aged 5 to 17 will be supplied with an additional sheet of clothing coupons. The counterfoil only should be removed, as the sheet of “0” coupons will be used later for clothing coupons. Two classes of books will be issued, one indexed “C” for children under ten on January 1, 1943 and the other for adults and children over 10 on that date. Old ration books have to be produced with the “O” counterfoil when application for new books is made. The old books will be returned' to the holder as the “M” coupons will be valid till the end of May 1943, and the “O” coupons will also be valid in 1943. Even after all “M” and “O” coupons are expended, holders will have to retain the old books as particulars may be recorded in them which may subsequently be required by the rationing officers. Sugar and tea coupons left in the old books will not be valid after October 31.
