GERMAN AMERICANS

ESPIONAGE TRIALS (Rec. 9.15) NEW YORK, July 21. At Hartford, Connecticut, Gerhard Kunze, former leader of the German American Bund, pleaded guilty in the Federal Court to a charge of conspiring to furnish military defence information to Germany and Japan before Pearl Harbour. Kunze was arrested recently in Mexico. He previously denied the charge. At Newark, New Jersey, a Federal grand jury indicted Herbert Bahr, who was seized aboard the diplomatic exchange ship Drottningholm, as a Nazi spy. The nature of the charge against Bahr was not disclosed. It is believed to be that of conspiracy to commit espionage, which carries a possible death penalty.
