GERMAN ATTACK

North-west of Moscow Kharkov Lull LONDON, June 2. The Germans launched an attack in considerable strength on a narrow front in the Rjev area of the Kalinin sector, north-west of Moscow. It was apparently an attempt to forestall a drive by General Zhukov. Russian forces have repulsed the German thrust, and drove the enemy back several miles. The Germans are now reforming. General. Zhukov has begun flank movements.
