A London cable states: Mr. A. T. Newboult, who was Under-Secretary of the Federated Malay States when Malaya was invaded, has been appointed as Colonial Secretary tor Fiji.

,/.j London cablegram states: Princess Elizabeth, wearing her Girl Guide’s uniform, went to a Ministry of Labour Exchange in the country, and registered wi'th other sixteen-year-olds. The Queen accompanied her. The Princess borrowed. a fountain pen from a Ministry official to fill in her card. A girl clerk helped her with ihe form. She is the first member of the Royal Family to attend a Labour Exchange to register. A total of two hundred thousand girls, aged sixteen, registered on Saturday.

Mr George Green, one of the last remaining members of the Greymouth Aero Club, who leaves shortly to join the R.N.Z.A.F., was farewelled by a large number of his friends at a social evening at the club rooms, on Thursday evening. Mr B. Cummings, another member of the Club, on behalf of his friends made a presentation of a hold-all to Mr Green, stating he was sure that Mr Green would uphold the traditions of the Club in the Air Force. Dancing and musical items were held during the evening. Shortly after the outbreak of war, Mr Green made the gift of his aeroplane to the Government for training purposes.
