Mr. E. Smellie, Apiary Instructor for the Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast districts for the past lo years, left yesterday on transfer to Christchurch. As a war measure however, Mr. Smellie will * continue as officer for the districts as well as for Canterbury.

Recently invalided home from the Middle East, five West Coast soldiers returned home yesterday. Four Buller soldiers, Privates E. J. Berdinner, R. R. Andrew (Reefton) and Sergeant W. J. Cutbush (Reefton) have already returned to their homes. Private’R. A. Tomkies (Greymouth) and Second Lieutenant A. R. Guthrey (Hokitika) are remaining in the Wellington Hospital in the meantime.

, One of the earliest and most esteemed residents of the Brunnerton district, Mrs Bridget Creagh, passed away at her residence in Wallsend yesterday afternoon, after an illness of twelve months. With her husband who predeceased her 14 years ago, she established ■ their well-known grocery business in Brunner over 55 years ago, when the large production of coal commenced, and was one of the best known residents in the district. Ai native of Ross, aged 72 years, the late Mrs Creagh was a member of the well-known Minehan familv of Ross. She leaves three daughters, Miss Mary Creagh (Wallsend), Miss Kathleen Creagh (Masterton) and Mrs W. Eising (Pahiatua), and seven sons, Francis. Martin, Joseph, Brendon, Kevin (Wallsend), James (Leeston) and Colman (on active service). She is also survived by five brothers, Joseph (Harihari). Jeremiah (Ross), James (Mount Hercules), Martin and Michael Minehan (Cobden).
