Ai cablegram from Chungking announced that Major-General Lancelot Dennys, head of the British Military Mission, was killed in a plane crash. He wa's one of several passengers, including United States Army officers, who lost their lives' when the aeroplane crashed a few miles from the Kunming airport, shortly after taking off from Chungking. He spent most of his military life in India. He had achieved a distinguished reputation during his stay in Chungking, .and his work had been highly appreciated on every side(Rec. 8.25). The plane in which Major Genera. Dennys was killed crashed near Kunming. Thirteen others also los. their lives. They included: Mr. P. J. Russeii, of the British Embassy: Mr.. Fenn. Lynch, the American tin ancial adviser to the Chinese Government, and American members ol Mr. McGruder’s mission to China. Mr. Philip Fogarty, the former British High Commissioner in Buima, was injured An -American Pilot Scott, who was killed in the wrecked plane, took part in daring exploits in the evacuation of civilians from Hong Kong during the siege.
