The death of a well-known resident of Camerons, Mrs Mary Ryan, wife of Mr John Ryan, occurred yesterday afternoon. A native of Pais-' ley, Glasgow, the late Mrs Ryan was one of the oldest residens of Camerons, having lived there for over 30 years. Besides her husband, she leaves one son, William (Camerons). The funeral takes place; privately tomorrow morning, leaving Bellamy’s Chapel.

* The D.F.C. has posthumously been awarded to Flight-Lieutenant Russel Ernest Orchard, of Christchurch. His citation stated the award was made “for gallantry and devotion to duty in the execution of air operations.” Lieutenant Orchard was twenty-one years of age. He was reported missing in September ,1941. He was born in Rangiora, educated at Saint Andrew’s College, Christchurch, and served in the Canterbury Regiment of the New Zealand Territorials in 1936-38. He was commissioned with the R.A.F. in 1938, and was promoted to Flight-Lieutenant in June, 1941.

The death occurred on Saturday afternoon of ,a well-known and respected Cobden resident, Mr Roy Rooney. A native of Hobart, Tasmania" he was in his fiftieth year, and was by occupation a plumber, having carried on his trade in Cobden for the past twenty years. He had only a brief illness, and many friends learned with great regret of his unexpected death. He previously was a resident of Otira. Besides his wife he leaves a family of three daughters, Kathleen (Harihari), and Loretta and Anne (Cobden) and three sons, Paul (in military camp), Vincent and Bazil (Cobden). The funeral takes place this morning.
