Mr G. T. Peek, who has been a member of the Grey district staff of the electrical branch of the Public Works Department for the past five years, left on Saturday for Rongotai, to join the survey section of the Aerodrome Construction Unit. The electrical staff farewelled Mr Peek on Friday at Dobson and presented him with' an envelope of notes. The presentation was made by Mr A. E. Davenport, Resident Electrical Engineer, who, with Mr A. A. Shannon, expressed regret at losing the services of Mr Peek and wished him every success.

A pioneer resident of Greymouth, Mrs. Mary Ann Hopkins, passed away at the residence of her daughter,'Mrs. W. McGrath, Kilgour Road, on Saturday. Born 80 years ago at Woodend, Canterbury, deceased came to Greymouth as a' child and had resided here ever since. She was a member of the Panckhurst family and was predeceased many years* ago by her husband, the late Edward Hopkins. She is survived hy three sons, Alfred (Auckland), Frederick (Wellington), and William (Napier); and eight daughters. Mesdames E. J. Rundle, T. Lewis, W- McGrath. C. G. Moss (Greymouth), C. Mclntosh (Wellington), C. White (Christchurch), P. Tite (Queensland), and Miss Nita Hopkins (Christchurch); also three brothers, Messrs David Panckhurst (Reefton), Walter Panckhurst (Auckland), and Charles Panckhurst (Christchurch), and two sisters, Mesdames G. Hostel ng (Auckland’) and W. Wilson (Wanganui). The funeral will take place this afternoon, leaving the residence of Mrs. McGrath, Kilgour Road, at 3 o’clock for the Karoro Cemetery.
