At its ordinary meeting Inangahua County Council iixed rates at 4id m the £ general, a half-penny fire, and six-sevenths of a penny special. On Cr O’Regan’s motion it was decided to ask the nffiitaiy authorities if sittings of the Appeal Board could be held at Reelton. Cr. cogman moved that the Railway Department .be asked to provide- better shunting ■facilities at the Cronadun Station for coal trucks. Crs. Archer and Auld advocated seeking the extension of electrical power supply by th e Government to Reefton. Cr. Duff urged improvements of Reefton footpaths, especially those leading to the railway station, and on his motion, seconded by Cr. Archer, it was decided to construct a footpath with kerbing at Potter Street from Buller Road to the State School entrance. :The Engineer was authorised to repair Mirfin’s bridge and to protect the road at Brown’s Creek bridge. Mr J. O’Brien, M.P., wrote re Parliamentary Erosion Committee inspection in the County. It was decided to accede to the request of the Patriotic Committee that the chairman, Cr. Auld, open its fair next Friday, and that Council employees assist in erecting stalls. Westland Breweries Ltd. asked if Council could reduce the price for water supplied to the Reefton Brewery. On the motion of Crs. Watson and Archer the- request was refused. Frank Hoy was granted a separate water connection from the main to his dwelling at Lower Broadway. Copy of an application for a claim license on behalf of Gold River Dredging Limited in respect of property recently owned by Mrs Teasdale' was referred to the Engineer. The matter of erosion at Woolley Creek was referred to the Engineer, following representations by Mr. F. Lester. The Public Works Engineer advised that a bulldozer would be made available at the earliest opportunity with respect to erosion at Smith’s, near Cronadun. Gilsenan Bros., asking for assistance in repairing road into sawmill at Landing Creek. —Referred to the Engineer. The Chairman referred to the death of Cr. W. J. Duff’s father, and conveyed the sympathy of the Council to Mr. Duff. Mr. T. Southern and family, Inangahua Junction, were accorded a vote of sympathy in the death on active service of Private Rex Southern. Cr. B. Mirfin was accorded the sympathy of the Council in the death of his uncle, Mr. Walker. Crs. Duff and Mirlin thanked the Chairman and members.

At the Hospital Board meeting, the Department of Health advised approval of application for overdraft to £750 for next period. Dr. Wicken, medical superintendent, reported: Admitted 34, discharged 40, deaths 0 in-patients 27, X-Rays 8, births 6, 1 anaesthetics 15. out-patients 8, at--1 tendances 36. Mr. Discaciati was de- . puted to deal with renewal of floor coverings in hospital wards. The towm members were authorised to I arrange for employment of another man at the hospital gardens. Mr. Clayton moved that the Board communicate with the Department asking that probationers be allowed to undertake part-time training at the local hospital in view of no reply being received to an application for an additional nurse. Messrs J. J'. Coughlan and Discaciati were appointed visitors. Accounts were passed totalling £676 8s sd, and including the following (shillings and pence being omitted): —Wages and salaries, £282; North Canterbury Board, £144; District Cash Butchers, £29; Harold Bros., £66; Pyramid Coal Coy. £22; W.
