Damage was caused to the po.nts and the track, when, two empty coal wagons, engaged in shunting operations on the Greymouth wharf, ran through a set of points near Albert Street, and both left the rails, about 9 o’clock yesterdav morning. Neither wagon was damaged and both were restored to the rails within half an hour. Two employees of th e Harbour Board, who were engaged in repair work under the wharf at the exact place where the derailment occurred. went through several anxiou? moments, the wharf beams shaking ominously under the strain. The common practice of parking motor cars considerable distances from the kerbing might well have had more serious results when an accident occurred opposite the Railway Station last evening, prior to the departure of the rail-car. A cyclist, Mr. J. Zampesi, of Runanga, had a narrow escape from injury when he collided head on with a motorcyclist. The motor cycle had to go round a car stationed in the centre cf the road. The cyclist sustained injuries to his side and his arm, and the forks and front wheel of his machine were much damaged, while the motor cyclist and his machine were none the worse.

The members of the Greymouth and Cobden Home Guards are to parad--at the Drill Hall To-morrow (Sunday) at 9.20 a.m., when they will be inspected by Brigadier O. H. Mead.— Advt. -

As a result of a successful gala dav held at the Grey Main School on Thursday, £42 16s was raised for the genera'.- fund of the School Committee. Large attendances of parents and members of the public patronised the exhibition of works, the sale of donated goods, the Pet show, and drill display in the- afternoon, and a concert in the evening.
