Mr. Leo O’Malley, stationmaster at Ikalnatua, who has left on transfer to Woolston as stationmaster, was fare.welled by the members of the Ikamatua Golf and Tennis Clubs and presented with a mantle clock. The presentation was made by Mr. W. Craven, who referred to the various services given by the recipient and expressed good wishes for his future.

The death of Mrs. Evelyn MaudCollins, of Runanga, occurred yesterday at Greymouth after an Illness lasting 12 months. Deceased, who was born 67 years ago at Launceston, Tasmania, had resided in Runanga for 35 years. Her husband. John Collins, died two years ago. ■There are no relations tn New Zealand. The funeral will take place to-morrow.

The King has approved tae appointment of Major-Genera (temporary Lieutenant-General) felt William Dobbie, as Governor and Cornman-der-in-Chief at Malta. Major-Gen-eral Dobbie has been . administering the government of Malta since he assumed command cf the troops in April, 1940, with the exception of a short period in May, 1940, immedlately before General Sir Charles Bonham Carter left the colony.

The Prime Minister of Australia. Rt. Hon. R. Menzies, will arrive at Auckland to-day by ’the Pan-Ameri-can clipper from the United States, after a' four months’ round-the-world tour in the interests of Australia’s war effort. He will be met by the Acting Prime Minister, Hon. W. Nash. He will be the guest at the Government at dinher to-night. To celebrate the coming-of-age or Miss Nance McKane, daughter ot Mr. and Mrs. A. H. McKane, of Cobden, a ball was held in S'chaef’s Hall in aid of the Air Force Queen, who was the guest of honour.. The customary key was presented to Mias McKane by the Mayor (Mr. F. A. Kitchingham), who congratulated her upon attaining her majority and expressed good wishes for her future health and happiness. She was also the recipient of a gold broochkey from the Air Force Committee, the presentation being made by Mr. A. Hill. The air hostesses and others present at the ball accorded musical honours to Miss McKane.

The death occurred at her residence, Cadman Street, last evening, of a most respected resident of Runanga. Mrs Margaret Moore, after on illness lasting seven months. The late Mrs Moore, who was 72 years .of age, and was a daughter of the late Denis Ryall, of Barrytown. had been for 33 years a resident of Runanga. Predeceased eleven years ago by her husband, the late James Moore, she leaves a fami v of five, there being one daughter, Sster Mary Madeline, of the Convent of Mercy, Hokitika, and four sons. Lev. Father D. Moore. S.M., of Hastings’, and John and William (RunangaV and James (Whangarei). Deceased is also survived by two brothers, Hon. John Ryall, M.L.C., and Mr Denis Ryall (Barrytown), and Miss J. Ryall (Barrytown). The relatives will have 'l|he sincere sympathy of a wide circle .of friends in their bereavement.
