MILITARY APPEAL

CITIZEN OF EIRE. HELD TO BE BRITISH [Per Press Association] CHRISTCHURCH, May 30In the first case of its kind to be heard by the No. 5 Armed Forces Appeal Board, the Chairman, Mr F. F. Reid, S.M., announced the Board’s decision in an appeal heard at Westport, in which Michael O’Connor, on the grounds of his status, claimed to be exempt from overseas service as a citizen of Eire. The Board has dismissed his appeal. It fould that he was a naturalborn British subject, and a resident of New Zealand, and was therefore properly within the division; but the Board also finds that whether he should be called up for service, was a policy matter to be determined by the Government.
