WOMEN’S CORNER

ELECTIONS Elections, whether municipal or general, never fail to bring to our minds the memory of those pioneers whose activities in the past were responsible for us having the right to vote. The fa'ct that some women are inclined to be apathetic in. the use of the vote is to be deplored, especially when we consider the sacrifices made by those heroic women who gave the best part of their lives in fighting and agitating for the enfranchisement of women. As a tribute to their memory let us use our vote in the sense they intended; that is to say. in the interests of the working-class. Equality of Sexes Janet Ha'slett (England) writing in “Reynold’s News,” says: “I am surprised that women have not had more to say about the law of com-

pensatlon. which not. only entitles them to less than a man in case of an air-raid injury, but is founded on the strange belief that it costs a woman 7/- a week less to live than a man. Any kind of inequality, whether it is between man and woman or between classes is highly undesirable. However unsound the principle may be of paying a woman less than a man for doing the same work, to put her compensation rate so much lower and expect her to take the same risk as a man becomes almost grotesquely unfair. Baby Clothes

Amongst other articles that are in short supply at the present time is the white flannel used particularly in the making of baby’s requirements. This we are exceptionally short of, the reason given that the mills are engaged in major operations for war purposes—another of life’s little tragedies.
