MERITS OF RUGBY CHAMPIONS.

ITo the Editor] Sir,—l read with interest “Sport’s" letter in yesterday’s issue—Jack Steel v. Ron King. Well, personally. I am a Ron King fan, and his record is no mean one. Was he not an All Black.’, 1934-11938, touting Australia and Great Britain ? It was not his fault that, since “Frosty’s” day, the standard of Rugby improved out of sight in Great Britain and Australia, and, besides that, Jack played with those brilliant inside backs, Cook and Mark Nicholls. Ron showed his unquestioned ability in being elected captain of the 1937 All Blacks against the Springboks and he was besides the premier forward. He played from bell to bell in the thick of the fray. I would not wish to decry “Frosty , who, the Springboks said, war the world’s No. 1 three-quarter in his day, and a speed merchant to boot. Ron is fast, too, and I would be quite satisfied to wager that in a trial of speed, he would at least have his nose in front at the tape. I am etc., ALSO A SPORT.
