OBITUARY

Albert Greenwood Many West Coast friends and La* bcur supporters will learn with extreme regret of the death, following only a brief illness, of Mr Albert Greenwood, a well-known railwayman and'until recently an esteemed .resident of Greymouth. A native of the North of England, the late Mr Greenwood was 58 years of age, and came to Greymcuth when in his twenties. An expert in woodwork, he joined the staff of Stratford and Blair's Sash and Door Factory as cabinet-maker, and some years later entered the employ of the Railways Department as carpenter, and for a quarter of a century was identified in that capacity with the Greymouth Railway Workshops. Early last year he was transferred to the workshops at Addington. A student of sociology, Mr Greenwood was a stalwart of the Labour Movement, having been an Executive member of the Greymouth Branch of the Party, as well as Chairman of Directors of the Grey River Argus Company, in which capacity he rendered very valuable service. He was also a member of the Westland Labour Representation Committee for many years. He took also a keen interest in horticulture, and was a foundation member of the Greymouth Horticultural Society. Another of his interests was that of cricket, and he held the office of President of the West Coast Cricket Association, while he was an active member of the Cobden Club and later an efficient umpire. Besides his wife, he leaves a family of two sons, William (Wellington) and Horace (Waipaia). 'The sincere sympathy of a host of West Coast friends will be extended to the bereaved relatives. The funeral will take place to-day at Christchurch, leaving deceased’s residence, 136 Simeon Street, Spreydon.
