A Sydney cable states that tne death occurred yesterday of Mr George H Morgan, former transpacific Manager at Sydney for the Union Steamship Company, from which he retired in 1934. His widow, sen and daughter survive him. Passengers by yesterday’s express to Christchurch include: Mr H. Robinson (to Timaru),. Miss C. White, Mrs W. Page, Mrs J. GHlaly, Miss M. Fletcher. Mr E. V. Ellery, Mrs R. Ellery, senr Mr. C. W. Browne, Chief Postmaster at Greymouth, leaves on Monday next on transfer to a similar position at Timaru. His place at Greymouth will be_ taken by Mr. A. W. Swap, relieving officer. Miss E. Davison, Town Clerk of Runanga, has resigned her position after several years’ service. At a meeting of the Runanga Borough Council, the resignation was accepted with regret. It was decided to call applications to fill the vacancy. Miss J. Butler, National Service Department, Greymouth, who has been transferred to the State Housing Department, Wellington, has been replaced at Greymouth by Miss E. Eaton, formerly of the Public Trust Office, Greymouth. Miss D. McDiarmid has also commenced duty on the staff of the National Service Department, Greymouth.

The appointment of Rear-Admiral Lyster, as Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty and Chief of the Naval Air Services, has been announced. RearAdmiral Lyster succeeds Vice-Admir-al Sir Guy Boyle, who has been lent to the Australian Government for duty as First Naval Member of the Commonwealth Naval Board. The death occurred at Wanganui on Sunday night of Constable P. J. O’Brien, who had been in charge of St. John’s Police Station, for 17 years. Before coming to New Zealand in 1910, Constable O'Brien was a member of the Royal Irish Constabulary, and was one of the special bodyguard when King Edward visited Ireland in 1903. He joined the New Zealand Police Force in 1910, later being transferred to Ponsonby, and then to Wanganui. Constables C. O’Brien (Auckland) and D. O’Brien (Wellington), are his sons.
