Mr Willkie lias arrived at Porto Rico. NEW YORK, February 9. ' Mr Willkie declined to discuss details of his experiences,. in England, until he can give a connected account of the trip. RUGBY, February 9. Mr Willkie is reported to have arrived in the United States, to-day, and to have said on landing that he heard nobody in England express the belief or anticipation that the United States would or should become an “active participant in the war." Mr Willkie is expected to appear before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday. U.S. ARMY OFFICERS. 50,000 FROM RESERVE. WASHINGTON, February 9. The War Department has announced that 50,000 of the available 105,000 reserve officers will be on active service duty bj' June. SUPPLIES TO GERMANY. WASHINGTON, February 8. Senator B. K. Wheeler has requested Mr Roosevelt to facilitate a senatorial inquiry into the foreign patent controls of vital American war materials, if he “is so anxious aoout discovering who is aiding Germany.” U.S.A. It is authoritatively stated here that'Mr Benjamin Cohen, a New Deal attorney, is going to London as Mr Winant’s legal counsellor, Mr Robert Murphy, the counsellor of the United States Embassy at Vichy, is being also shifted to London.
