lOur Own correspondent] Mr and Mrs W. Sneddon and daughter returned to Wallsend on Saturday from a holiday visit to Kaitangata. Mrs Greener, with her daughters. ha s returned to Westport after an extended visit to her parents at Taylorville. Mrs J. Warren and Miss J. 'Warren return to Taylorville to-day, from a visit to Christchurch.

At a meeting of the Brunner Branch of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild, it was decided to make another clothes drive throughout the Borough shortly. Residents are asked to contribute any clean old clothe- which could be renovated or cut down into children’s garments.

Owing to th.e inclement weather on Saturday evening there was a poor attendance at the School euchre, tournament. Mr J. Morgan was the winner.

At the annua', meeting of the Brunner Public Library, Mr W. Purdy (President) presided over a large attendance. The half-yearly balance she.et was presented: and read as follows: —Income, £lB4 2s Id; expenditure, £ISO 3s lid; balance, £3 1S S 2d. It was adopted as satisfactory. It was decided that all salaries remain as at present. Approximately ISO books have been placed on the shelves during the year 1940. Senior, and G. Erskine. 'Mr W. Purdy presided at the Committee meeting of the Brunner Public Library. The half-yearly balance sheet as read, was recommend ed to the annual meeting for acceptance. ThHeadmaster reported that the school roll at the opening of the term was 77, which would increase shortly to SI when four more children reached the age of five vears and could be added to the register. Repairs to school windows and replacement of worn out blinds were being attended to bv the Board’s foreman. The Commit lee agreed that the School of Mines should be allowed the use of a class-room as required, on the same terms as before, for a mining class. Arrangements wer e made for the cutting of grass and hedges in the school grounds.
