ADDINGTON MARKET Lambs and Baconers Firm OTHER LINES EASIER I Our own norrespondencj CHRISTCHURCH, February 5. Lambs and baconer pigs were in good demand at to-day’s Addington market, most other lines being easier. Messrs H. Matson and Co. review the market as follows:— Fat Cattle: The yarding was 469 head, and was similar to last week. A few good prime steers were yarded, but light and unfinished sorts were more numerous than usual. The sale was easier by about 10s to 15s a head. Best beef sold up to 38s per lOOlbs. good 34s to 36s per lOOlbs, medium 31s to 335, rough down to 275. Prime steers fetched £l5 to £lB 7s 6d, medium £8 15s to £l4 15s, ordinary to £8 10s, prime heifers £9 5s to £ll 17s 6d, medium £7 5s to £8 15s, ordinary to £7, prime cows £7 to £ll 7s 6d, medium £6 to £7, light £5 lbs. Store Cattle: There was a small yarding of mixed sorts. A pen of eighteen to twenty months steers sold at £6 Ils, and a pen of 18-20 months heifers at £5 8s 6d.

Veaiers: There was a large entry, mixed in quality, with a good number of large runners, and the sale for these was easier. Good young suckers met a free market. Large runners sold to £7 3s 6d, medium £5 3s 6d to £6 Is, veaiers £3 6s to £5 13s 6d, calves 5s to- £3 3s. Dairy Cows: There was a small entry, with a keen. demand for good sorts. Good sold to £l7 and 2nd and 3rd calvers £l2 to £l6.

Store Sheep: There was a larger entry of adult sheep. However, the lamb entry was smaller by about 5000 head, there being 10,000 head of these yarded. The lambs met with a free sale, and were Is to Is 6d a head better than last week. Mixed sex lambs sold to 19s, good rape lambs 14s to 15s 6d, medium 10s to 13s 6d. Adult sheep sold steady at last week’s rates.

Fat Lambs: There was a larger yarding of approximately 3000 head, a large proportion being of the average store standard. Competition was keen. Prime lambs sold from 27s 6d to 375, medium 20s to 275, light 14s 6d to 18s.

Store Pigs: There was a full yarding, it being too large for requirements. There was a dragging sale. Prices were down by 3s to 4 S a headStores fetched 27s to 425, slips 18s to 255, weaners Ils to 20s. Porkers: There was a large yarding, but competition was very slack, as most of the sorts yarded were unfinished pork. Heavy pork fetched 52s to 57 s 6d, medium 44s 6d to 49s 6d, light 39s 6d to 43s 6d, the average price, per lb. being 61d to 7',d. Baconers: There was a large yarding, with a keen sale throughout. Heavy baconers fetched £3 9s 6d to £4 7s 6d, medium £3 10s 6d to £3 17s 6d, light £3 Is 6d to £3 9s 6d, the average price per lb. being 6Jd to 7d. Fat Sheep: There was a full offering in the mutton pens. Values opened firm at late rates, with an easing tendency as the sale progressed. The yarding comprised a larger percentage of wethers than formerly, with the quality below standard. Heavy ewes sold on a much lower basis as compared with good medium sorts.
