STRICKLAND BOUT.
AUCKLAND, February 4. ■ A special meeting of the commit- s tee of the Auckland Boxing Associa- « tion was held to-night to discuss the £ proposed bout between Maurice ‘ Strickland, of New Zealand, and rton Richards, of Australia. Negotiations were in progress for such a match to , be held in Auckland during the pre- ( sent month. } The committee unanimously agreed ; on the following resolution: “That < any authority given to Charles Lucas to negotiate on behalf of the Auck- j land Boxing Association be with- ] drawn: (a) In view of the fact that j the assocaition had endeavoured to ( facilitate arrangements for a Strick- j land-Richards contest, oven to the extent of obtaining guarantors against j a possible loss; and <b) on account of ( there being no further correspondence , from Lucas, as promised in his letter of January 23. because the committee understands that other negotiations' are in progress by Lucas whereby a match between the said boxers is likely to take place in Australia.’’ I
