LINER MARIPOSA

Change in Schedule DIVERSION FROM RUN. AUCKLAND February 4. The Matson Line has announced the temporary removal of the liner Mariposa from the New Zealand and Australian run between July 16 and September 6, because of expected heavy travel between California and Hawaii, states the San Francisco correspondent of the Sydney Morning Herald. No word of the diversion has been received in Auckland by the local agents, Henderson and Macfarlane, Limited, but the manager, Mr. A. E. Playle, said last night that such a change would not be surprising. The Mariposa, which was scheduled to arrive at San Francisco from Auckland on Jtily 15 and to leave again for Auckland and Sydney on July 22, returning to San Francisco on September 9, will now miss one round trip. The liner will be able to make a round trip between San Francisco and Hawaii every 13 days during the period of her diversion from the usual run. Although traffic between San Francisco and Hawaii is always heavy in July, August and September, those months are in the period of very light traffic to and from New Zealand. Since the loss of the liner Niagara, the Pacific and Tasman services have been greatly depleted and the absence of the Mariposa even for one voyage is regarded as serious.
