COLLISION FATALITY
VERDICT AT INQUEST. HAMILTON, February 4. A verdict of death from injuries received when the jigger he was driving was struck on the Newstead level crossing by a motor-car driven by W. V Priest, was returned by the coroner Mr F W. Platts, at an inquest into the death of George Stanley Adams, aged 52, a railway surfaceman, who died on November 10 alter an accident the previous day. Victor William Priest, veterinary surgeon, of Hamilton, gave evidence that he approached the crossing at 30 miles an hour. He kept a lookout for rail traffic, but saw nothing. The front wheel of his car was struck by the jigger. Gorse and blackberry obstructed the view of the line. Frederick George Harrison a passenger on the jigger, said he did not see the car approach. They were travelling at a normal speed. The brakes were in excellent order and Adams was a capable driver.
