MUST BE ADEQUATE Government’s Firm Stand [Per Press Association] WELLINGTON, January 15. The protection of New Zealand troop convoys was discussed by the Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, m an interivew to-night. The Gov. ernment, he said, had never permuted, and would never agree to, the despatch of New Zealand transports from the Dominion till it was satisfied that the ocean escorts proposed by the naval authorities wer e reasonably adequate, taking into account ail of the prevailing circumstances.
