Banfield, who has been on a visit to Mr and Mrs W. P. Boucher. Cowper Street leaves to-day on return to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs D. McCaskill, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs R. T. Bush, leave to-day on return to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. C. Victor and son, who have been visiting their parents at Tarama'kau Hotel, have returned i.o Christchurch. Mrs. R. Fox and her son. of Wellington, who has been visiting her brother, Mr. T. S. Williams, of Kumara J'unction, left yesterday on return.

Lady Galway, with the Hon. Mary Monckton and the Hon. Simon Monckton-Arundell, left Auckland by the Pan-American Clipper for America' this week. The Governor-General, Lord Galway, saw them off. Mr W. Lee-Martin, the M’ nister 01 Agriculture, whose resignation from the Cabinet was announced to a recent caucus of the Government party, does not intend to contest the Raglan seat at the next Genera! Election. His health has been unsatisfactory for over a year, and during about four months of that' period he was obliged to give up active Ministerial work. Though his health appears to be improving, Mr Lee Martin acted on medical advice in deciding to withdraw from active politics. The death occurred at Greymouth yesterday morning after a long illness, of Mrs Minni.e Mary Turley, of Ward Street, Cobden. Deceased who was born at Nelson 48 years ago, had resided in Cobden for the past 25 years. She is survived by one daughter, Dulcye (Cobden), one sister, Mrs F. Wrigley (Wellington), and three brothers, Messrs George, John and Thomas Goodman, all of Nelson. The funeral will take place at Karoro Cemetery, to-morrow afternoon, leaving the residence at 2 o’clock.

Many friends throughout the West Coast will regret to learn of the death of Mrs Margaret Agatha Carroll, wife of Mr A. M. Carroll, which, after a lengthy illness, occurred at her residence, Tainui Street, Greymouth, yesterday afternoon. A member of the well-known Boyle family, one of the pioneer families of the Ross district, the late Mrs Carroll was born at Donoghue’s, on the Main South Road, and had resided all her life on the West Coast, having been for a lengthy period a resident of Reefton. With her husband and family, she came twelve years ago to live at Greymouth. A lady of most estimable character,, the late Mrs Carroll had a wide circle of friends, whose sympathy will be extended to her bereaved relatives. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters. Misses Peggy and Moira Carroll, of Greymouth. Her son. Patrick, a wellknown alpine climber, lost h ; s lire on the Southern Alps about two years ago while making a traverse in the vicinity of Mount Cook. The deceased is survived by one brother, Mr M. Boyle, of Ross, and by five sisters, Mesdames M. Sullivan (Weheka). Kelly (Ruatapu). J. Donovan (Waiho), Shingles (Greymouth), and Wffi'd (Arahura).
