BLEDISLOE MEDAL

Won by Maori Farmer [Per Press Association] CHRISTCHURCH December 17A Macri farmer, Mr. T. A. Carroll, of Hurumua Station, Wairoa, Hawke’s Bay, has been awarded the Bledlsloe Medal for outstanding farming this year. The medal, which was established by Lord Bledisloe, is given each year to the former student of Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, whose outstanding ability as farmer has raised the standard of farming in his district. The College authorities, in announcing the award, state that the medal has been awarded to Mr. Carroll, not only 'because he compares favourably with the best of the East Coast land-own-ers in . farming knowledge, but, rather because of his outstanding service and assistance to the native community.

Mr. Carroll, who is a nephew of the late Sir James Carroll, is 50 years old, and he was at Lincoln from 1910 to 1912, when he gained his Diploma in Agriculture. He has served on every important public and semipublic body of his district, as well as having, in a great measure, taken h.s distinguished Uncle’s place as a leader of the Maori Race.
