The Greymouth Home Guard has now shown a very satisfactory increase in the strength, Last evening there were present no fewer than one hundred and sixty members at the initial parade of the Guard at the Greymouth Drill Hall. The officer commanding the West Coast District, Brigadier-General Meldrum, accompanied by Colonel Butcher, was present. Both officers addressed the men who were present. ' The- company was given preliminary drill instruction by Staff Sergeant Guerdon, assisted by Corporal Smith. Colonel Butcher has been appointed as temporary Company Commander, and the following are the platoon commanders: No. 1 Platoon, Mi’ J. McArthur; No. 2, Mr G. G. M. Mitchell; No. 3, Mr H. H. Herring; No. 4 Mr G. M. Rutter. It- is understood the men are still joining up, and the two hundred mark should soon be reached. 1,100 IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, December 5“So far there have been 1,100 enrolments in the Home Guard in the Wellington area, but this aoes i not include enlistments ' from Government Departments, from which returns are expected in the next few days.
