The weather report and forecast are as follows:— General' situation: An anti-cyclone is centred to the north-east of new Zealand, and pressure has been falling rapidly in th e south, with the approach of a depression from the Tasman Sea. Forecast: Winds moderate to strong, northerlies to northwesterlies prevailing, and reaching gale force at times about Cook Strait. A change to south-westerly or southerly winds is probable tomorrow over the southern half of the South Island. Seas (Nev/ Zealand waters): Rather rough or rough south of Cap e Egmont and; about Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere, slight or moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: In the northern portion moderate to fresh northerly winds, and moderate seas; in the southern portion, strong northerly winds to gales, turning to southerly to-morrow, and decreasing; seas rough. Weather fair in the northern and eastern areas, but otherwise cloudv and unsettled, with scattered rain in the western and far southern areas of the-South Island.
