REEFTON NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent] REEFTON, September 10. At iast evening’s meeting ur me Management Committee of the Inangahua Rugby League a letter was received from the Director-General of Health, in reply to a communication forwarded by ihe League enclosing a copy of a letter written to the Inangahua Hospital Board dealing with medical service in Reefton when the local ' Medical Practitioner is on leave. The letter staled that the Health Department agreed that every' reasonable cam should b e taken to ensur e that Reefton is not at any time left without a doctor, and stated that no doubt the Hospital Board .will appreciate the position. At a meeting of the Lady Gaiway Patriotic Guild ther e were present Miss Morris (chair), Mesdamcs W. Evans, Mitchell, Ebbett, J. B. Harris, Woods, Fielding, Seaton, Allan, Auld, Misses Garth, Shepherd and Burns. Th e minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed on the motion of Mrs Mitchell seconded by Mrs Harris. A parcel of clothing was received from Cnonadun and also some from local donors. Th e articles will be sorted and sent away as required. Arrangements were discussed for a Paddy’s market on September 27 and patriotic ball on October 25. Appreciation was expressed of the action of Mr John Panckhurst in delivering notices. Rev. C. Tanner, formerly vicar of Reefton, was a visitor to Reefton on Monday, accompanied by Mrs Tanner. About 20 employees of the Burke’s Creek collieries have been served with notices of dismissal, owing to lack of orders. Mr A. A. Blunden, of the staff of Consolidated Gold Fields, left yesterday for a short holiday, accompanied by Mrs Blunden, before proceeding to camp at Papakura. Messrs W. and C. Conlon are visiting their mother, Mrs W. A. Conlon. Miss S. T. Morris, secretary of Reefton Red Cross Society, acknowledges receipt of £25 from .Mrs Russell, being contribution from the Black’s Point branch. The sum of £1 Tss has been received by Mr W. B. Auld, treasurer of the Inangahua County Patriotic Fund, from employees of the Perseverance Coal Mine Coy.
