The Nikau is due from Picton tonight to load coal for Nelson. The Rata' is expected from New Plymouth to-morrow to load coal for Picton and Wanganui. The Kartigi is in port loading coal for Wellington and Dunedin, and is expected to be despatched to-morrow. The Karepo is expected from Wellington on Friday to. load coal for Napier ana Auckland. The Totara is expected from Wellington about Thursday, with general cargo. The Wingatui is due from Wellington to lead coal on Friday for return to Wellington. Personal: Miss L. Dines, left on Saturday for Christchurch. Miss Nora O’Driscoll, arrived from Wellington to-day on a' visit to her relatives Mr. Colin Hansen, who has been visiting his relatives at Westport, left to-day on return to Wellington. Miss Nean, who has been visiting Westport, left to-day on return to Nelson. Miss W. Shanks, left during the week-end on return to Nelson to resume her teaching duties. . A very pleasant evening was spent at St. Canice’s table tennis rooms on the occasion of a farewell community sing and presentation to the Club Secretary, Mr. L. Casey. Mr. F. Higgins presented Mr. Casey with .a bedside clock, and the latter suitaoly replied. During the remainder of the evening community singing was indulged in with Mr. E. Comerford as song leader. Items were given by Misses Mara, McNamara, McKenzie and Mrs. Lorrimer; Messrs Casey, Beams, McManus, Pat and Joe Walsh and Noel and E. Comerford. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Senior, suffered the sad loss on Saturday in the death after a brief illness, of their little five-year-old daughter, Elia Margaret, after a brief illness. Sympathy' is extended to the bereaved parents. The funeral took place yesterday to Orowaiti Cemetery, when there was every manifestation of sympathy with the bereaved parents and family in their i sad loss. Revs'. Corney conducted the services at the residence and at the graveside. The pall bearers were Messrs H. G. Johnston, L. Douthett, C. Douthett and A. Farrell. A large number ot wreaths were received from friends throughout the district. Mr. J. Munca'ster, of Nelson, is visiting friends in Westport. The Hon. P. C. Webb, is due to arrive in Westport this week, and is expected to spend some days here.

Mr. E. A. Gasson, Christchurch, is paying u business visit to Westport.

The funeral took place on Saturday of Florence Mabel Johnson, anu was attended by a large gathering of mourners. The Rev. S’. Corney conducted services at St. John’s Church and also at the graveside. The pallbearers were Messrs J. Mill, J. Puivis, J. Bowden and J. Johnson. Card Tournament:

There was a large attendance at the Labour Party’s recent card tournament. The euchre awards went to Mesdames Douthett, Hainsworth and Spencer. The 45’s competition was won by Mr. Ridsdale. A dainty supper was provided by the Ladies’ Committee. At the card tourney of the women s branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, held on Saturday evening, euchre was won by Mrs. McKendry (1), Mrs. Hainsworth (2), Mrs. Chandler (3). Mrs. Perkins won the 45’s competition. A competition was won by Mrs. R. Andrews. Last evening euchre prizes went to Mr. White (1), Mr. Henderson (2), Mr. Morrison (3). The 45’s prize was won by Mrs. McKendry. A dainty supper was served by the Ladies’ Committee. Shop Entered: Thieves broke into the premises of Mr. G. Parkinson, fruiterer and confectioner, Palmerston Street, on Friday night; and removed a small quantity of cigarettes and chocolates. Entry was apparently gained through a window. Electric Cable Lost: The Westport Borough Council has received advice that 35 miles of electric cable, intended for use in connecting Denniston electrically with Westport, had gone down in a liner which had been sunk by enemy action. The 19 miles of electric cable and some miles of telephone wire, and parts which arrived recently at Auckland, are now at Wellington and should reach Westport this week. Arrangements will be made to erect this cable and also, if a substitute cable can be procured in New Zealand, for its erection at a's early a date as possible. Failing the Council being able to obtam a substitute cable, then considerable delay in providing tne electric installation must occur, as new cable will have to be ordered overseas.

Buller Rugby Union: Those present at the meeting of the Buller Rugby Union Management Committee were as follows:— Messrs J. Mason (acting chairman), H. Casey, T. Scanlon, C. Robertson, V. Goodall, I’. Foote, R. Pratt, 1). Lutton, M. Head, and the secretary, Mr. W. Craddock. The committee passed a motion that the Westport Aero Club’s offer to co-operate m bringing a Wigram Air Force team to Westport on September 28th. and running a complimentary ball for same, was accepted with thanks. An application to withdraw their senior team from the Albion Cup competition was received from the Pirate Club and was granted with regret. It was decided tq' send a letter of caution to the Old Boys’ player whoi was ordered off the field during thcOld Boys v. White Star game on Victoria Square on Saturday. An account from the Westport Borough Council for the fitting of hot showers at the baths was passed for payment. Granity High School were declared winners of the 1940 fourth grade competition, and it was moved that a letter of congratulation on their success be forwarded to them. It was also decided to send a letter of thanks to Mr. J. Metson for his cooperation in arranging matches witn the Buller Primary Schools’ representatives. Fixtures: Albion Cup and
