YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS. At yesterday’s civil sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Greymouth, Mr G. G. H. Broomhall was ordered to pay forthwith to J. J. Anisy the sum of £5 Is, with 15s solicitor’s fee, in default six days’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended for seven days. A. H. Ross was ordered to pay forthwith lo Lawrence Gooch the sum of £3l 5s sd, wiht £1 Ils Bd solicitor’s fee, in default one month's imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended as long as debtor pays £1 per week, with the first payment on September 17. POSSESSION. Bessie Cain (Mr C. R. McGinley) sought possession of a tenement in Blaketown from J. 11. Bromley, also claiming £129 15s as arrears of rent. Defendant did not appear. Mr McGinley said that possession was sought on the ground that the rent was 173 weeks in arrears. William Edward Pring, secretary, of Greymouth, said that he acted as

agent for plaintiff in respect to her Blaketown properties. Up to June 24 1940, there was £129 15s rent owing by defendant, representing 173 weeks at 15s per week. After the summons was issued defendant interviewed witness relative to retaining possession of the house, ana promise ! to make regular payments, but since June 24 had paid only £4 0s 9d. The rent of the house, which was situated in Blake Street, ’ Blaketown, was 15s per week.
