Rumanians Pray for Him LONDON, September 8. Thousands of Rumanians knelt in the streets of Bucharest to-day to pray for King Michael and the country. Church services were held in other parts of the country, and bells pealed. The disturbances which have marked the last few days appear to have calmed down. Prince Nicholas, of Rumania, a brother of the former King, who renounced his right to the Uirone on marrying a commoner, is leaving Vienna for Bucharest to-morrow. King Carol has arrived in Switzerland, where special police precautions were taken. The former King, who was wearing mufti, went to an hotel, and Madame Lupescu left |he train some time later. British residents in the Rumanian Black Sea port of Constanza have given a new twist to propaganda prepared for Rumanian consumption by Dr. Goebbels. The Nazis had a bulletin board in a public place, and each day posted notices describing German victories. Members of the British community obtained the key and, in the dead of night, substituted a bulletin of their own invention for the official one. In the morning Rumanians were amazed to read, among other things, that “the Ark Royal had been sunk for the fourth time yesterday, this time by the Italians,” “that the Fuehrer has postponed his projected visit to London in September.” and tha' “Mr Churchill and members of the British Army will pay a visit to Hitler in Germany shortly.” When the Germans arrived in the morning they found amused Rumanians making copies of the messages p; show to their friends.
