WILL ROOSEVELT LOSE ?
MAINE ELECTORS Two-to-one for Republicans (Received September 11, 12.35 a.m.) MONTREAL, September 10. A message from Portland, Maine, gives details of the State elections. Maine leads off always in these elections, and is regarded as something of a pointer, though formerly it was Republican until it supported Mr Roosevelt. The message states that the Republicans are leading the Democrats by majorities of at least two to one in all of the five major contests. WASHINGTON, September 10. The Republican Partv chairman, Mr Marlin, in a statement said: “The Maine election returns definitely herald the end of the Roosevelt Administration, this indicating the election of Mr Wendell Wilkie in November as President, and the election of a Republican majority in the House of Representatives.”
