RUNANGA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent] During the week-end a party of 40 people, consisting of members o £ the staif of the Runanga Co-operative Society, and friends, paid a visit to flip Franz Josef Glacier. Th e party was favoured with perfect weather, and enjoyed it to the full, some journeying on to th e glacier on foot, while other preferred an aerial view, and made us e of th e aeroplane which had arrived from Hokitika. Among other tilings during their short stay, the party found time to visit places of interest near by, and attended a euchre and dance which was held in th e Thompson Memorial Hall. A very pleasant evening was spent in tile Druids’ Hall on Saturday evening when the Cumberland and Westmorland Society held thenwhist drive and dance, prizes being won by Mrs J. Patterson and Mr I. Day. During the evening solos were rendered by Messrs J. Armstrong W. Antov, and J. Almond. Occasion was taken to make a presentation of a crystal vase and bowl' to Mr and Mrs J. Davey, who are leaving in the near future to reside in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Davev were among the foundation members of the Society and their absence will be greatly felt Messrs R. and B. Lumsden who have been visiting Mr and Mrs W. H. Southward, left yesterday morning for Christchurch. Mr K. Southward is leaving today by car for Christchurch.

Mr and Mrs A. Hyndman who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs T. O’Loughlin Leave to-day ■ for Christchurch. Mr J. Tyson left on return io Christchurch last evening.
