CHATHAM CUP FINAL. AUCKLAND, August 3. An exciting North Island Chatham Cup final saw Waterside (the holders) beat Comrades, 2—l. The opening score was easy for R. F. Ward, the Wellington centre. He scored within seven minutes of the outset. This proved to be the only goal of the spell. Quicker still in the same spell, the same forward put Waterside two up, but the opposing centre. J Wateic, by clever individual play, coolly lifted the ball over S. Ward’s head, to reduce the deficit. A. Masters, Auckland representative outside left, missed a chance to square the score and Waterside had a torrid time defending for ten minutes in a thrilling finish. F. Hazel, the visiting centre-half, was the best player of the game. The game ended:—Waterside 2, Comrades 1. DUNEDIN, August 3.
