MARIST BEATEN
Marist sustained their first defeat of the season on Saturday when Tasman gained a single goal win. The ground at the Recreation Domain was fast, and a good standard was attained.
Cobden, with a depleted team, beat Pacific by 5 goals to 2 after leading 3-1 at half-time. For Cobden, M. Eatwell (3) and P. Clarke (2) scored the goals . Seguin and Messenger scored for Pacific. Messrs W. Heaton and J. Newton were umpires.
• Tasman secured a goal in the first spell of their match against Marist, who were unable to penetrate the defence in the remainder of the game. J. Newton scored for Tasman. Messrs W. Newton and F. Smith were umpires. CANTERBURY'S WIN. TIMARU, Aughst 3Piyaing at Timaru this afternoon the Canterbury representative hockey team beat South Canterbury by 2 goal's to 1. The game was fast and open throughout, and the result was in doubt almost to the final whistle. In th e first ten minutes South Canterbury twice narrowly missed a goal, one hot shot from A. Boyd striking th e upright. The spell ended with no score. In the second half R. Leney scored for Canterbury, and shortly afterwards A. Boyd evened the scores with a goal for South Canterbury. E. Radelliffe added another goal for Canterbury from a long corner, and a good game ended in favour of Canterbury by 2 goals to 1. In the junior game there was a draw, each side scoring two goals. K Martin and J. Rutledge - ' scored for Canterbury and R. Armstrong and W. Clare for South Canterbury. The secondary schools’ match, Christchurch v. South Canterbury, was won by Christchurch by 10 goais to 2. For Christchurch D. Dale (3), R. Scott (3), M. Bosley (3) and R. Agass scored goals, and G. Eathorne and J.
